The mill on the floss 

‘The mill on the floss’  is written by famous writer ‘George Eliot’ it s a quite lengthy novel and have so many characters. This novel speaks about the society of Victorian times and the mindset of the people.
       Mary Ann Evans is a full name of the write George Eliot. She is a leading writer of the Victorian age, not only a writer but poet, journalist, translator also. I also studied another novel of the same writer, which is ‘Middle March’.


     The central character of the novel is Maggie Tulliver and her brother Tome Tulliver. Maggie is a clever and intelligent. Her father is the owner of the Mill in the city namely St. Ogg's. Here in this novel we find the brother and sister’s love, Maggie is emotionally depended on her brother, though Maggie is more educated than Tom. For the better future of his son Mr. Tulliver decided than they will give additional education to Tom. There is also dinner party mentioned in the novel afterwords it turns into quarrel between Mr.Tullivers sister Mrs. Glegg and Mrs.Tullivers sister about Tom’s additional education. However Mr. Stelling, a clergyman, takes Tom on as a student.  And Maggie visits his school several times.
            Lawyer Wakem is another character in the novel, he is the enemy of Mr. Tulliver and his son Philip Wakem is also student of Mr. Stelling.  On the one visit Maggie and Philip becomes friends though Tom don’t like it. With the progress of novel Mr.Tulliver loss the case and becomes bankrupt and his enemy Lawyer Wakem win it.  Therefor he called Tom come back and support the family. This same thing is happens with Maggie when she is thirteen she also called back along with her cousin Lucy.  Several years passed and Maggie is become school teacher and she comes back to St.Ogg. in between this year Tom work hard and at list pay all the debt of Mr. Tullive, though Mr.Tulliver is no more now. Maggie and Philip renew their close friendship and Maggie would considered to marry Philip but Tom do not like it.  Lucy realizes that Tom wishes to purchase back Dorlcote Mill, and she asks Philip to speak to his father, Lawyer Wakem. Philip speaks to his father about selling the mill and about his love for Maggie, and Lawyer Wakem is eventually responsive to both propositions. Than the story goes on and break ups and fights and lot man things happens in between. Mggie goes and live in other city Tom is still struggling. At the last there is a flood in the river and Tom and Maggie died in the fld together their arms are on one another strongly. At the very end  years after Philip, and Stephen and Lucy together, visit the grave.
